THE CHASE, BY RISHABH GUPTA, 6TH GRADE

His heart pounded in his hest, but he couldn’t slow down and he couldn’t look back. No doubt they were behind him. He jumps over two rocks and ran ahead. Dr. Black was running away from a pack of tigers. In the Amazon, he tried finding something to save him. His airship lost control and down he went.
He tried jumping over a rock again but tripped. He looked back and saw the tigers advancing on him. He spun around and saw a hole just big enough for him. He jumped in. The tigers tried to follow but there attempts were unsuccessful. Dr. Black looked at the surroundings. It looked like a tunnel. He started to crawl towards the end. All of a sudden, the tunnel started to shake. He saw cracks in the roof of the tunnel. Apparently, the tigers were smart enough to try collapsing the tunnel. He retraced his steps and looked out the window to see if the tigers were there. Sure enough, they were 20 feet away trying to collapse the tunnel. It looked extremely battered. Before they could notice, the Doctor started to run again. He decided that he would go into a downstream flow so that his scent would go away. After 20 minutes of running, Dr. Black found a river with quite a good downstream flow. He didn’t spare a second because he could hear the tigers running less than a ¼ of a mile away. He ducked in the water and swam into the center of the river. A coupe of minutes later, he looked up. Dr. Black thought he saw the river opening to the sky but then the sudden realization came. WATERFALL. He tried swimming to the edge of the river but the stream was too powerful. Before he knew it, he plunged over the edge.
Dr. Black didn’t even scream. Now, he had to focus on how to stay alive. He decided that he would try snagging himself on a branch. He was successful and his cloak was caught on the branch. Before his cloak could rip, he climbed up it and hung onto the branch. He was 40 feet above ground. He saw another branch and jumped on that. He kept doing this until he was five feet off the ground. He jumped down and looked up. The tigers were 300 feet above.
“Thanks for the exercise,” Dr. Black muttered.
